When you’re building an E-commerce business there are many choices for websites. Shopify is one of the most popular and there are good reasons for that.

In this video below I talk about the pros and cons of Shopify and why, I chose to build my E-commerce site there. I love it, but there are definitely cons to every platform, right? And so we have to, look at both analyze what will work best for our business.

Shopify Pro #1 – It’s Super Easy to Use

If you’ve ever built a website on WordPress, it does take some tech skills. It does take some tech savviness and or having or paying a web designer to build it out for you.

So it does take something to build a WordPress website. But with Shopify, all the essentials are built in for you!!

Shopify Pro #2 – They Have Beautiful Themes Built In

You only have to pick your favorite one and customize it with your brand colors and inventory.

It’s super easy to colors and add your logo. No need to a lot of technical skills or website designer to get started.

You can also upload your own themes or third party themes onto the platform

Shopify Pro #3 – It’s a Great Platform for Drop Shipping Stores.

Shopify has apps you can sign up for drop shipping or you can link your own service to it.

So if you have a couple of days, you know to poke around look at it to see the functionality of it and things like that and seeing what worked for you. So you have three days to do that before you have to sign up for a membership, but it has low membership options and also the first year is always a discount.

Shopify Pro #4 – An Industry Leading Customer Support Team

Another really good thing about is there’s lots of support options there. There’s Shopify in house support, online chat support and community forums you can access.

And then there’s also people that you can hire, to help you promote and to build your website to a higher level. All of those costs vary depending on what your budget is.

Shopify Pro #5 – Discounts for Shipping

There are several options for shipping with discounts included. Also, there are several apps you can download that help with easier shipping modalities.

Shopify Pro #6 – Easily Track your Marketing Efforts

In your back office you can tell easily tell where your leads and sales are coming from.

Helping you be more strategic with your marketing efforts.

Shopify Pro #7 – Simple Payment Processing System for Online and In-Person Sales

With the Shopify App on your phone you can take payments at pop-up events, vendor shows or even a brick and mortar store. It has over a 100 payment processors to choose from that fit your business.

Shopify Pro #8 – Integration with Social Media and Search Marketing Sites

Shopify has links already build in for integration with Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Google. It also has many email auto-responders to stay in connection with your customers.

Those are all the pros that I want that I’m gonna talk about today. Those are all super cool. They’re reasons why I love Shopify and things and reasons why I continue to build my store on Shopify, we’ll talk about some of the cons because there’s Cons to every platform.

There’s always things that don’t work maybe as well as you wish they would. If you’re a program coder, some of those things you can fix or manipulate a little bit more than somebody who doesn’t have coding or a lot of tech experience.

Shopify Con #1 – The Blog

They do have a blog option. They have the blog page, but let me tell you the blog is not to talk about. It’s pretty much just text with very little customization options available. If you ever had a blog on another platform it’s a little bit of a letdown.

Shopify Con #2 – Lots of Costly Add-ons

There are a lot of apps that integrate with with Shopify, but they can be costly.

There are a lot of options you can add on to make things simpler but you want to be cautious of what you add on.

First of all, you don’t want to encumber your website with a ton with a crap ton of add ons. Sometimes apps don’t don’t play well together and will slow down or break your site.

Shopify Con #3 – Transaction Fees

As with any E-commerce platform you’re going to have transaction fees.

Shopify Con #4 – Limited Automatic Discounts

This is probably the biggest Con that I can think of. As a consumer I love discounts. As a marketer I love the attraction discounts offer.

In Shopify you can offer discounts automatically or with codes. The limitation comes in with how many the customer can take advantage of at a time. You can offer a shipping discount if they purchase so much but you also might be running other sales. You can only run one discount at a time that will automatically trigger.

Overall I love the Shopify platform and how easy it has been to build my store. Opening and creating your E-Commerce site is not actually the first thing you should do if you want to build a successful business that is also sustainable and scalable.

Did you know that marketing your products is actually step number seven and building your business?

More often than not we jump into marketing our businesses without having the foundation of our business built.

The truth is women have been wanting and calling for business training that aligns with them. Until now it didn’t exist… and then we created the Truth Bomb Academy. The first ever, female led training, workshops, and community delivered in the style of feminine leadership.

We’ve blended what we’ve been told is woo-woo with the structure of a business playbook. It’s unique, and fun, and allows women to feel safe as they share what we truly experience as women in business.
